Little Zagłębie (Małe Zagłębie)

”Małe Zagłębie” (“Little Zagłębie”) is an amateur folk dance and song group based in Primary School No. 10 in Będzin, Poland. The name of the group comes from the region of Zagłębie where Będzin is situated.

The group consists of musically talented students of the school (aged 9-12) and the line-up of the group has been continuously changing as the years pass by. There are both singers and musicians in the group. They play various instruments such as the violin, the guitar, the flute, the accordion, the

oboe and the trombone. A lot of them are also students of the town’s music school where they constantly improve their skills. The children prepare folk performances with teachers of our school Joanna Brzostek, Małgorzata Kalaga and Joanna Hajduk. The group has taken part in various local

festivals and events.

The most important thing for the teachers in charge of the group is to make children aware of their folk tradition and their national heritage as well as develop their musical talent. At the same time we believe that children should learn about diversity of our world and broaden their horizons by getting accustomed with traditions of other regions and countries. Finally, we love to see the joy that their performances bring both to the members of the group as well as the audience.
